The workflow

Crossings (Fci & N)

A crossing-cost raster and a per-cell count of crossed infrastructure.

The Crossings tab of the plugin

The Crossings tab produces two outputs: the crossing cost factor Fci and the crossing count N.

Create Crossings Costs Raster

  • Select Crossing Vector (roads / railways) and Select Reference Raster (defines the output grid).
  • Set Cost for crossing-covered cells (default 3) and Cost for non-crossing cells (default 1).
  • → the Fci raster (a binary penalty surface).

Create Number of Crossings Raster (N)

  • Select Crossings Vector and Select Reference Raster.
  • Counts how many distinct features cross each cell, tracing each line with the Bresenham algorithm and de-duplicating by feature ID — so multi-segment infrastructure counts once.
  • → the N raster, used by the COMET formula (capped at 10).

Next: Corridors.
